From February 2013 to January 2014 Hedley Hall training will be running a programme supporting 16 – 25 year olds to move forward positively in their lives.  Those individuals with high level needs of one to one support will be targeted.
This project offers a “second chance” to young people while they are at the time of their development and maturity when they realise how important English and Mathematics skills are to their future job or further educational opportunities.
“Second Chance” will work with 20 disengaged 19 – 25 year olds who are not ready yet to engage with more formal educational institutions.  Our aim is to help each student become more functionally literate and numerate so they can manage their own lives with increased confidence and independence. We also plan to encourage all students to gain qualifications.
We know that many young people lack the confidence to study with others and need intensive one to one support.  Therefore we will expect to focus on one to one tutorials, to be held either in your own home or a convenient community venue, such as a library or community centre. We can also meet you at Hedley Hall in Bath.

What will happen first?
Students will have one to one tutorials, identify what qualification they will want to study, identify their current academic level and put together an action plan for short, medium and long term goals.  We will work towards students achieving a recognised English or Maths qualification.  We will also assist students in moving on from the course, either to other further education, training, employment or volunteering. Personal and Social Skills development are a key support to every student.

What else is on offer?
Hedley Hall can also offer the following to students:
  • Employability and Job search Skills Training;
  • First Aid Training;
  • Health and Safety Training in Construction;
  • Financial Planning and Budgeting;
  • Organisational Skills Development;
  • Food Hygiene.

Will expenses be paid to students?
All travel expenses will be paid directly to the student.
